The Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast is coming. It’s a Podcast for single mums, made by a single mum. But I’ll tell you more about the Podcast at the end. First you need to know how to listen to it.
Podcasts (as we know them) have been around for over 10 years, but have gained popularity in recent years through shows such as Serial. A Podcast is essentially an audio show (released as episodes) that you can download or stream for free.
Although they are gaining popularity, and more and more people are listening to them, there are still many people who are not really aware of what they are and how to listen to them.
With the imminent launch of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast, I thought I’d put together a little guide for those who want to listen, but are not sure how. It’s also important to point out that listening to a Podcast is FREE. You do not need to pay for episodes, and you can subscribe for free.
Listening to a Podcast using an iPhone or iPad
If you are wanting to use an iPhone or an iPad to listen to a Podcast, use the Podcasts App. You can get it for free from the App Store, however on most devices these days it already comes installed. In the Podcasts app you will soon be able to search for Single Mother Survival Guide and then hit subscribe, or download individual episodes. If you subscribe, new episodes will automatically be downloaded onto your device as they become available, ready for you to listen to next time you’re traveling in the car or on the train for example. Look for this icon, or search for Podcasts on your device if you cannot find the app.
Listening to a Podcast using an Android Device
For Android phones and tablets, you can get the Stitcher App from Google Play. In Stitcher, you will soon be able to search for Single Mother Survival Guide. Clicking the plus sign (+) will add the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast to your Favourites list.
To automatically have the new episodes downloaded, click the gear in the upper right corner.
Listening to a Podcast on a Computer
If you prefer to listen to audio through your computer, you can navigate through to Podcasts in iTunes by:

BUT now to the exciting part…
What is the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast About?
A Podcast for single mums, made by a single mum… The Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast is going to be absolutely unreal, and I can’t wait for you to hear it. It’s been months in the making and includes a mixture of me babbling about single mums business and interviews and discussions with different people about different topics.
First off the ranks this includes an interview with a Wills and Estate lawyer which contains everything YOU need to know about getting a Will done, an interview with a financial adviser on everyday money management, savings, spending and so forth, an interview with an online security expert so that YOU know how to keep yourself secure online, an open interview with a domestic violence survivor and advocate, and another interview with a financial adviser on everything to do with insurance, and what you should think about getting insured to ensure the financial safety for you and your kids. Coming up after that I have chats with people including parenting experts, family lawyers, and a life coach.
I also chat about the social stigma of being a single mum, single parent travel, everyday tips to make YOUR life easier, dating (sadly I’m not an expert in this area, so I’ll need to pull in the troops for this one #datingnovice), personal budgeting, resources out there to help YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN, child support, domestic violence, successful co-parenting (again…sadly not an expert in this area, but I know many who are #coparentingfailure), advantages to being a single mum, and the list goes on…
Watch this space as I finalise details, but I suspect it’ll just be another week or two until the Podcast is available.
